Celebration of the 2004 International Theatre for Children and Young People World Day

The 20th day of March 2004 was celebrated as the International Theatre for Children and Young People World Day – already for the fourth time in the Czech Republic. ASSITEJ has reminded again the right of children and young people to leisure and their rights to artistic and cultural enrichment, particularly by means of theatre.

It was celebrated and reminded all over the world by special events: festivals, shows, celebrations, extraordinary performances, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc.

The Czech Republic was in no way behind the other countries. Based on the call of the Theatre Institute/the Czech ASSITEJ Centre the celebration of the 2004 International Theatre for Children and Young People World Day was participated in the Czech Republic by a total of 82 ensembles, which gave 109 performances in 19 cities throughout the country (see the list). The celebration was joined by means of special events also by several cultural and artistic institutions, e.g. KZ Valašské Meziříčí (children visual art competition “Drawing Fairy Tales”), KC Zahrada Prague 4, CVČ Lužánky Brno, the Higher Professional School of Theatre in Prague (entertainment afternoon with fairy tales, competitions and carnival), the Municipal Theatre of Český Krumlov, the City Community Centre of Havířov along with the Kruh theatre.

Along with the Capital of Prague, the Association for Creative Drama and the Mlejn Club, the Theatre Institute/the Czech ASSITEJ Centre was the co-organizer of the 4th annual Festival for celebration of the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People, which took place on 18-21 March 2003 in Prague (programme).

The children who attended the festival received free gifts provided by Tesco Stores ČR a.s.
