2003 – The Course of Theatre for Chidren and Young People World Day in the Czech Republic
20 March 2003 was again the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People. It has been globally celebrated woldwide for the third time already – as an expression of support to the rights of children and young people for leisure, as an acknowledgement of their rights to artistic and cultural enrichment, particularly by means of theatre culture.
The World Day for Children and Young People highlights the important role that can be played by theatre in the lives of its spectators and creators.
The author of the official proclamation regarding this year’s World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People is the ASSITEJ International President Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schneider from Germany.
The Czech ASSITEJ Centre (the main organizer of the celebration of the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People in the Czech Republic) called on all the theatres of the Czech Republic, independent ensembles, community and cultural centres, houses, facilities, etc. to present on that day performances intended for children or young audience (if they have such works in their repertoire) and to celebrate jointly this international theatre holiday by reminding the significance of quality works. The celebration of the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People was participated by a total of: 76 ensembles from 23 cities with a total of 98 performances.
The Theatre Institute/the Czech ASSITEJ Centre, the Tydlidum Society and the Club Mlejn organized a special three-day event – The Festival for celebration of the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People held in the Theatre at Celetná and the Club Mlejn on 20-22 March 2003. The programme included a total of 12 performances and was composed of selected representatives from professional theatres, theatre agency groups, amateur theatres for children and theatre for children performed by children (Theatre at Dlouhá, Theatre Dagmar Karlovy Vary, Studio dell´arte České Budějovice, Theatre VYSMÁTO Prague, Ensemble HOP-HOP Art School ZUŠ Ostrov nad Ohří, Art School ZUŠ Chlumec nad Cidlinou, Art School ZUŠ Uherské Hradiště, Emanuel Frynta and Five Mice from Ty-já-tr Prague, ToDivadlo Nový Jičín).
